Brethren, ,
September has come and gone and I am able to report that all seems well at Harmony Lodge! This letter to you will focus on upcoming events because there has been little activity this past month about which to report.
Over this past month, for the first time in quite awhile, there was no work required of us. This will be only a brief hiatus, however, as a Master Mason degree is scheduled for Thursday, October 4, beginning with supper at 6:30 PM and the gavel falling at 7:30 PM. Please come and join us as we raise some worthy men. If you have been unable to attend Lodge communications in the past, I encourage you to use this event to rejoin the fellow-ship at Harmony and enjoy once again the legend of the third degree.
At our upcoming Regular Communication on October 11, the Nominating Committee will make its report on a slate of officers for next year. Please contact a committee member with your input on the Lodge leadership for 2013. Committee members are: Kevin Ennis, PDDGM; David Spears, PM; Howard Harris, SW; and Christian Sherbert, JW. I know they would appreciate your viewpoints. Also, please note that next year’s officers will be chosen at the Regular Communication on November 8, and their installation will occur at the Regular Communi-cation on December 13.
With just a few months left in my term as the master of Harmony Lodge, plans are being made to select the officers for next year. I have appointed an officer nominating committee and encourage each of you to contact them to offer your input into next year’s leadership. The members of this committee are: RWB Kevin Ennis, PDDGM; WB David Spears, PM; Brother Howard Harris, SW and Brother Christian Sherbert, JW. The officers for 2013 will be elected at the regular communication in November with their installation occurring at the regular communication in December.
We are still receiving contributions to the HVAC Capital Campaign. To date, a total of $9905.00 has been contributed by forty-seven brothers! Though short of our goal, this is a significant accomplishment, and I am pleased with the effort so far. We appreciate all of you who have participated as well as those who are planning to do so!
To date, these Brothers have contributed to the HVAC fund. Their efforts are greatly appreciated!

Brethren,
-
Freemasonry is said to be a beautiful system of morality, veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols. What is an allegory?
Allegory is from two Greek words and means, “story within a story” – the Masonic story is told as a fact, but it presents the doctrine of immortality. Allegory, parable, fable, myth, legend, tradition, are correlative terms. The myth may be founded on fact; the legend and tradition more probably are founded on fact, but the allegory, parable, fable, are not. Yet they may be “true” if “true” is not taken to mean factual. “In the night of death hope sees a star and love can hear the rustle of a wing” is beautifully true allegory, but not factual. All allegories may contain truth, without being fact.
The allegory of the Master’s Degree is not true in any factual sense, except in the historical background from the Biblical account of the building of the Temple. That the Hirams were Grand Masters; that the workmen on the building were Entered Apprentices, Fellowcrafts and Master Masons; that they met in various apartments of the Temple, with different numbers required for various quorums; that the events delineated in the ceremony actually happened are not factual statements.
Yet the allegory is true in the best sense of the word. For the story of Hiram is the story of the dearest hope of mankind. It is a tale told in every religion. It is affirmation, by picture, drama, story, of man’s rugged faith that Job’s immortal question, “If a man die, shall he live again?” must be answered in the affirmative. It is a Mason’s observation that truth, slain by error, will be born again; it is the crucifixion and the resurrection of the Carpenter who died between two thieves. The Masonic allegory is true in the deepest sense of truth.

Each year the Low Country Masters & Wardens Club, a non-profit fraternal organization representing South Carolina Ancient Free Masons in the 4th Masonic District, provides scholarships to deserving children or grand-children of Masons in the area. This year Miss Laura Pinckney Chambers of Beaufort, SC and Miss Alicia Louise McAlhaney of Varnville, SC were awarded $1000 scholarships.

Brethren,
We recently held a clean-up day at Harmony Lodge #22. Larry Morales and Aaron Stephens enlisted several of our newest Entered Apprentices and Fellow Crafts for a full morning of work. The crew cleaned the bath-rooms, dusted all the window sills, washed the floors (both upstairs and down), cleaned the kitchen, rearranged all the furniture, cleaned up the back room and then retired outside to cut the grass, weed-eat and pull weeds.
Many thanks to those who helped out Saturday; the Lodge is in good repair at this time. We need a couple of small maintenance issues to be wrapped up and may ask some of you for your help or advice, as I am not a natural handyman. Please remember if you have any requests for dinner, either call me on my mobile phone at
(843) 575-5667 or email me at Christian@islandrealty.info.
Fraternally,
Christian Sherbert
Junior Warden
Fraternal Greetings Brothers, ,
Greetings from the Secretary’s Desk. Please check your dues card to make sure you are current. I will start to mail notices early this month to our Brethren who are in danger of going NPD this year. Please help your lodge save money by getting your dues paid, if you have not already done so.
We are busy with work and invite each of you to attend a Special or Regular Communication.
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE
This year the Worshipful Master has decided to have Officer Elections in November and Officer Installations in December at our Regular Communications.
We hope this finds you well and enjoying the last days of summer.
Fraternally,
Kevin V. Ennis, PDDGM
Secretary

“The things we admire in men, kindness and generosity, openness, honesty, understanding and feeling are the concomitants of failure in our system. And those traits we detest, sharpness, greed, acquisitiveness, meanness, egotism and self-interest are the traits of success. And while men admire the quality of the first they love the produce of the second.”
