Harmony Masonic Lodge No.22 A.F.M. News Letter for month of May 2009

W/M David Scott Spears

Brethren,

Greatings from the East. This month of April is gone and it was very interesting with this year's Grand Lodge Meeting in Charleston, SC. The sound needed work and I will suggest that if you go to next year's grand lodge meeting, you bring a cushion to sit on (:o). I wish to thank all those who helped do the E.A Degree on April 16. I was told that it went very well; sorry I wasn't there.

The date of the cornerstone laying is the May 23. We will open the Grand Lodge at Harmony at 11:00 am, eat at 11:30 and then proceed to the New City Hall Building on Boundary Street and Ribault Road to do the cornerstone laying ceremony. This ceremony is open to all family members; I hope to see you there.

Our Prayers go out to Brother Junior Warden Craig Dopson and his family and Most Worshipful Bobby Pinkston and his familly. The last thing I would like to say is HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL MOTHERS OF THE LODGE.

My thanks to all who helped the Lodge do degree work and the lectures. You are an inspiration to the Masonic fraternity.
Now to pass on the information this month without being overly repetitive, I direct your attention to the Senior Warden's column.

Fraternally,

David Spears,
Worshipful Master

From the West

Brethren,

Brothers, we conferred a first degree on April 16, on our newly made brother, James Ryan Gilchrest. Ryan, as he prefers to be called, was blessed to have his father, Brother Gilchrest, and Grandfather, Brother Millsp, both of whom live in Tennessee, present to witness his initiation as a Mason. It went smoothly, as hoped. "Smoothly," means, that the officers practiced many hours after a full day's work to make it happen; and I will add, "with enthusiasm."

The Brothers who participated as officers in this initiation ceremony were Acting Steward, Vaughn Meese, Acting Junior Deacon Lynwood Polin, Acting Senior Deacon, Howard Harris, Acting Junior Warden, Paul Griffin and Acting Worshipful Master, Charlie Spears.

Many Thanks to our officers for their fine performance, most of whom did this fine work in black suits, with fancy white shirts and white gloves; some in complete tuxedos, all at their own expense. We used the candles and wooden candle holders as our three lesser lights. We also rotated officer chairs for this degree, which means that this was the first time each officer had done his chair. Worshipful Brother Wayne Holsoffle gave a great Apron Lecture. And need I say, what a great job, Right Worshipful Terrell Altman did on the Lecture and Charge, I think Brother Terrell is at the point where he could charge admission to Brothers to hear his lectures! Of course, Brother Terrell would not let this happen.

Coming upon April 30, we will have a 3rd degree for Brothers Chris Emde, Adam Bryson and a courtesy work for a young man from Unanimity. I am expecting this to be as good, or better, than recent first-dgree work. Please come join us and help pass down our traditions to our younger Masons.

Our Brother, Junior Warden Craig Dopson, has been out of Masonic service, becasue Miss Darleen is having serious health issues. So, for our first-degree feast, Mrs. Eckhart prepared lasagna, which was excellent. I cannot promise lasagna again, but I am sure Mr. Laurence will have something good, as ishis usual custom. Consider this your open invintation to join your Lodge officers and Brothers on 30 April. 2009 and, of course, any time we have a regular communication.

I attended Grand Lodge this year. It was a pleasure to watch our Grand Master, Most Worshipful Gerald Craver work in Lodge. There were times that I could not hear some officers, so i took it upon myself to talk to our new Grand Master about this. What is the point of coming if I can't hear? Well, we have the same problem in our Lodge, so we are trying to speak louder and more slowly, so all can understand. At any time in Lodge, if you cannot hear, please give a sign, so will know to speak up. With that said, I hope to see you all in Lodge.

Fraternally,

Charlie Spears
Senior Warden

Brethren,

Occasionally, something happens which is of general interest to the Brotherhood. On Friday, April 24, the Scottish Rite Club of Beaufort met with a guest speaker, Ms. Beth Moon, of HELP Mobile Meals. The Club had made a donation to this worthy organization for which yours truly and his wife volunteer. Ms. Moon was gracious enough to appear and give us a description of the organization's purpose and methodology.

Inspred by this service, which transports hot nutritious meals to those in the comunity who, for whatever reason, cannot otherwise obtain or prepare such fare for themselves, Brother Laurence Laughlin suggested that the Lodge might do something along the same lines. I therefor make the following suggestion and appeal:
Please bring canned food products to our next Communication. Food should be in cans, as cans provide not only good preservation, but also resistance to rough handling. If we can make it a general habit of collecting such itmes, we can also find someone to distribute them organizations who see that those in need obtain at least the basis of a good meal. Avoid goods packaged in plastic wrap or paper; cans are best.

I look forward to discussing the details of such a plan at our next regular communication.

Fraternally,

Howard R. Harris
